IT Industry at Nashik

( One can read latest official information on this IBM official link page )

Currently the IBM office in Nashik seems to be in its infancy. The office is situated at Jupitor Business & Luxury Hotel, on Mumbai - Agra Highway at Pathardi Phata (junction). A place which is conveniently accessible from major residential areas of the city.

Although no clear information on where the full fledged office location will be is found on the official website, my guess is Mumbai-Agra highway as well as the connecting road from Pathardi phata to Deolali. The reason being the locations' vicinity to almost complete Six lane Mumbai-Agra Highway, Ghoti-Sinner road (which will connect to Pune by roadways). Also Deolali and Nashik Road are two central-railway stations on nearby this area.

The presence of IBM and its growth in the future will surely attract other IT firms, MNCs towards Nashik. With well established Mechanical & Electrical-Electronics industry at Ambad, Satpur and Sinner, IT will also become a major income source for people of Nashik.

The downside is constantly reducing green cover & more than that shirking farm-cover. From over past few years, exterior parts of the city have witnessed alarming reduction of the green. Farmers are selling their grape farms to housing development builders. When IT starts coming in full fledged, it will also eat-up the space. Government must play optimistic but at the same time cautious role in allocating / allowing areas to such big construction projects. Ecology as well as wild life around the city may get adversely affected if the growth goes unplanned and uncontrolled.

Looking at the infrastructure side of the city, it currently has just enough facilities for its current population. It would be interesting to see if the arrival of IT encourages government to improve the transport - water - electricity - security and similar sorts of essential requirements. Although if not acted quickly, the infrastructure development later will become a major problem. Fingers crossed!

Last but not the least, not only government, but also common manus of Nashik must also understand the change due to arrival of IT. IT industry will bring with itself large number of non-Marathi (local language) employees. Currently, many of the sign boards, road mile stones, shop banners, offices display all the information in Marathi only. Although love towards mother tongue must be preserved & enhanced, at the same time Marathi manus - the people of Nashik - every resident - must consider non-Marathi people, their language problem. If everyone could put their boards, house numbers, area names, notifications in Marathi as well as in English, it would greatly pacify the life of outside people. It is fortunate that most of the civilians understand Hindi, they should also embrace English without hesitation. The change should be accepted and implemented not only by civilians but also by government and Industry. Then the IT growth would not hamper the civil life in the city.

To conclude, I feel growth is very much needed. But only planned and controlled growth will be a success mantra.
