Experience
Currently I am a Vice President in Risk Management Solutions to manage, develop and update different peril models. I have more than 15 years of professional experience in loss estimation for hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, winter-storms, and other natural hazard as well as man-made hazards like terrorism. In RMS, I have been involved in developing and calibrating vulnerability functions of residential and commercial structures for US hurricanes as well as vulnerability functions of tall buildings for western US earthquakes. I am also working on developing the simulation framework for the RMS platform. In addition, I am managing to update terrorism model to simulation platform.
Prior to joining RMS, I have managed a number of projects to develop and update models for earthquakes, hurricanes, and winter storms in Applied Insurance Research and EQECat. I have also worked in several projects for securitization of risks for earthquakes and hurricanes and has worked in a number of world-bank projects for managing risks of developing countries for earthquakes and hurricanes. I have also worked as a consultant to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Applied Technical Council (ATC).
I did my BS and MS study in Jadavpur University, India, in the department of civil engineering. After working for a few years in the Nuclear industry, I enrolled in Stanford University for PhD study in the area of assessment of building seismic risk under the supervision of Prof. Allin Cornell.
Education
Hurricane Damage (Ike)
I research primarily in the area of earthquake engineering and seismic risk analysis. Outside my research and development work in RMS, I am also involved with several research organizations. I am a member of the following research groups:
Member of USGS Steering Committee for US National Hazard Maps
Technical advisory committee of PEER GMSM Group.
Technical activity group of GMSV.
I have also been a National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program (NEHRP) panel member to review the research proposals submitted to USGS external research grants program. I was a member of Scientific Committee for 16th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (16 WCEE). I have published a number of papers in international journals and conferences. I am a technical reviewer and editor of a number of papers in several journals. I have received the EERI award for the best journal paper in the year 1998.
