Philosophy is fascinating, and rewarding, but it also sets you up for life. Contrary to popular belief, philosophy majors do quite well in their careers. On average, they make a healthy salary, and those who don't want to jump right into the work force after college do very well on the LSAT and the GRE. Some data below.
Philosophy majors make more than chemistry or business majors.
They do extremely well on the LSAT. If you are looking for a career as a lawyer, a philosophy major may be a good choice.
They do extremely well on the GRE.
And if you want an MBA - major in philosophy, not business.
Here's more information on why a major in philosophy is a good idea.
Towson students: feel free to talk to me about a philosophy major! I'm usually in my office, LA 4119, and always available by e-mail (ntebben at towson). And if you want to declare a major, you can do it on-line! Use the "change of major/minor" form at the registrar's website.
