Q. What can I use to hold the balls?
A. I recommend tires. Ask any auto parts store who sells tires if they would be willing to donate any tires. Most stores must pay to have them recycled. Please make sure there are no exposed metal from the tire that would cut you or your students. If you need something something that can be stored compactly, I would use Laundry Baskets, clean car oil pans with an with no lid, or even a 5 gallon bucket. The higher the object you use to hold the ball, the greater the chances of of the stand and ball being.
Q. Do you have any tips for being safe?
A. *To be safe, make sure your students always have the "PLUG" pointing straight down. A plug that has been hit repeatedly, can break then becomes a flying projectile up at your students.
*I personally like using noodles cut into half for Drumming with my Primary students. I use drum sticks with my intermediate students, but will also use the cut pool noodle's.
