Work Experience

CEO and Co-Founder, Beam Robotics – Kitchener, ON, March 2019– Present

  • Beam Robotics focusing on building robots & sensor suits for automated inspection of civil infrastructure including bridges, parking garages, nuclear facilities, air fields, naval bases and general industrial facilities. We also perform general 3D mapping services for a variety of applications including rapid BIM generating and site assessment.

  • As CEO, I oversee the main strategic plan for the company while leading networking and customer acquisition

  • Since we are a small start-up, I help contribute to all portions of the technical work including hardware and software


Research Intern, Facebook Reality Labs (Now FRL Research) – Redmond, WA, March – August 2020

  • I worked as a PhD intern on the LiveMaps Project

  • My focus was on researching ways to improve their localization pillar

Applications Developer, Clearpath Robotics – Waterloo, ON, May – September 2017

  • Developed valuable software programming skills necessary to contribute to the robotics field, including ROS, C++, Python, XML, and LabVIEW

  • Wrote and released software package + tutorial and demos for controlling Clearpath Husky with LabVIEW while subscribing to and plotting various sensor data.

  • Implemented, tested and created tutorial instructions for using Mandala Robotic's 3D mapping kit

  • Built a GPS waypoint navigation software package for performing autonomous outdoor navigation on a Clearpath Husky using IMU, Lidar and GPS. This included waypoint collection, heading calibration, discrete and continuous waypoint following all with built-in obstacle avoidance and 2D mapping. All software was developed for and tested in simulation and outdoor.

  • Combined GPS waypoint navigation with mandala-mapping to perform autonomous outdoor 3D mapping with built in obstacle avoidance.

  • Learned valuable mechanical engineering and hardware integration skills by building all the necessary platforms myself.

Diagnostics Engineering Intern, Walter P Moore Inc. – Los Angeles, CA, August – December 2015

  • Gained valuable experience in the fields of structural design, rehabilitation, restoration, forensic investigation and building enclosure analysis

  • Performed condition assessment of structures requiring repair or maintenance including parking structures and apartment complexes

  • Worked as part of the lead forensics engineering team investigating a bridge collapse in Corona, CA; investigated and documented evidence, managed sub-consultants in performing materials testing and documented condition of bridge structure

  • Learned concrete diagnostic skills by assessing deterioration mechanisms and studying cracking behaviour of reinforced concrete members

  • Assisted in strengthening and stabilisation designs including fibre reinforced polymer application for shear and flexural strengthening of beams and slabs

Forensic Engineer in Training, T Smith Engineering Inc. – Etobicoke, ON, January-April 2015

  • Gained engineering forensics experience in commercial, industrial and residential settings

  • Focused on a wide range of applications including structural analysis and design, failure cause analysis, mould investigation, asbestos detection and building envelop investigation

  • Attended site regularly in order to inspect, analyse and measure structures

  • Completed full structural analysis as needed and drafted existing structures followed by the creation of repair details and specification

  • Completed a structural steel/concrete design for a burned theatre in Edmonton, Alberta

Municipal Designer, MMM Group Ltd, Whitby, ON, April – September 2014

  • Created complete civil designs using Civil 3D including grading, site servicing, drainage and erosion control plans

  • Gained valuable design experience in subdivision developments as well as industrial, commercial and institutional projects; corresponded directly with municipal engineers, architects and with clients

  • Completed a servicing feasibility study for the development of a major employment area

Design Technician, The Regional Municipality of York – Environmental Services Department – Capital Planning and Delivery Branch, Markham, ON, August 2013 – January 2014

  • Worked as part the Region’s Southeast Collector Team responsible the construction of a 15km trunk sewer project; learned innovative trenchless tunneling technologies by overseeing key milestones at various locations among the 19 project sites

  • Assisted in various project management duties including site inspections, contract claims management, change directive tracking as well as creating maps and drawings

  • Contributed to the design stage of the West Vaughan Sewer Servicing project including drafting the RFP and establishing the evaluation criteria

  • Assisted in the Life Cycle planning for all City Owned Buildings
