Welcome to Haleh Niazmand's Art 102, Introduction to Computer Graphics information page.
Art 102 is an online course that introduces you to the basic principle of art & digital design, computer graphics terminology, its related concepts, and a variety of free software and Adobe Photoshop. In this class, you will produce several creative projects and will learn how to critique graphic artworks by engaging in discussion boards with your peers.
No textbook is required for this course, but you will use Adobe Photoshop software, which you must purchase a subscription for. Please read the following important information about software subscriptions:
The best and cheapest way is to get a subscription of 6 months of Adobe Creative Cloud (the entire Adobe package) through College Buys for $50.00. This is a one-time payment and is a massively discounted price; The professional price is about 12 times this amount for a mandatory subscription of one year. While the student discounted the price for 12 months amounting to 6x more. To order this best option, visit the College Buys Store and follow their prompts. Please note that a 12-month full-package subscription is also available for $100. To get this discounted price, you must use your student email.
The second option is to order directly from Adobe and choose "Creative Cloud Photography Plan." Please note that this subscription is for PhotoShop and LightRoom only and is a 12-month contract. That means you will be paying $120 stretched over 12 payments. So, with this option, you get less software for a much higher price.
Most of the assignments for this course must be completed on a computer (not with a tablet or a Chromebook). However, while owning your own computer is extremely helpful, it is not required. The students who have the time to use one of the 4 software-loaded computers at the MJC library (provided by the MAGIC Lab) may do so in place of buying their own computer. Also, MJC's MAGIC LAB offers virtual software application support via Zoom. In other words, having access to a computer and Adobe software is required.
The course structure requires students to log in to the course site, read all the material, watch videos, and study all slide presentations. They then complete their assignments and upload them to the site. The course materials are arranged week by week, and students complete them on their own time.
This website also features my students' artwork. Please take a moment to browse the archives and familiarize yourself with the type of creative projects this course addresses.
