Current:  I am the Head Coach Girls/Boys Swimming/Diving Teams and the Head Coach of the Girls/Boys Water Polo Teams since 2019.  I also coached both programs from 2015 – 2017.  During all seasons we have qualified both swimmers and divers for the State meet.  We have also sent water polo to the All district teams.

Past coaching:  I have been involved in swim coaching since 1982.  I started as a volunteer while I was stationed in Maryland with the Air Force.  I then took on the assistant position when I was stationed in Berlin, Germany (1982-1985).  The team in Berlin was an age group program ranging in ages from 9-18.  The team included children of other military families.  The team traveled to other similar teams throughout West Germany.  My next assignment took me to Oklahoma City where I was an assistant for a small team at a local YMCA (1985-1987).  I left the Air Force to complete college and moved to Connecticut where I was an assistant for a small age group program in a small town (1988-1990).  I then moved to Indiana to pursue my Master’s Degree and took up the Head Girls swim coach at a local high school and was also the assistant for the Men’s program at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, (at the time a small all mens university).  I then moved to Massachusetts to start my teaching career where I was hired to be the Head Coach for a local YMCA age group (5-18) program.  During my 9 years with the YMCA we maintained approx. 110 active swimmers.  In my last 5 years with the YMCA we were the local regional Champions.  Also during this time I was able to qualify multiple swimmers and relays for YMCA winter and summer nationals.  I also inspired many swimmers to swim in college.  Unfortunately my time was interrupted by the crisis of 9/11.  I was currently serving in the Air Force reserves but was pulled back to full active duty for almost 2 years.

Personal:  I was raised in southern Connecticut near the mouth of the Connecticut River.  I entered the Air Force from 1977-1987 (active duty) and 1991 – 2004 Air Force Reserve, retiring in 2004.  I have lived in many places.  Prior to moving to Florida in 2011, I was living in California where I assisted with a Master’s swim program.  I joined Master’s swimming in 1990 and have competed in many swim meets.  Places that I have lived include, Connecticut, Japan, Maryland, Germany, Scotland, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Indiana, California and Florida (where someday I will retire).

Assistant Coach Girls/Boys Swimming/Diving Teams

Born and raised on Long Island I began swimming competitively at the age of 12. I swam on the girls varsity swim team all four years of high school and served as captain in my senior year. I went on to swim in college as I received my bachelor’s degree in History Education at St. Joseph’s College. I have been teaching World History and coaching swim at Nova High School since moving down to Florida in 2018.

As a coach my goal is to help students learn to balance their time between academics and athletics. I believe high school athletics is a great way for students to learn the value of living a healthy lifestyle. I hope to help my student athletes learn how to work together while improving on their own personal goals.

Coach Lisa Mitrani

I am a native Floridian, born and raised in South Florida and graduating from Miramar High School. Currently, I work for the Business Support Center of Broward County Schools as a Budget Support Specialist. In addition to working for Broward County Schools, I have also raised my two sons in the Broward County School System, with both graduating from Cooper City High School.

I got involved in Diving in 2008 when my son was taking Diving lessons at the Ft. Lauderdale Aquatic Complex. It looked like fun and I asked if I can do it as well. Let’s just say the rest is history. I have been part of the Ft. Lauderdale Diving Team and USA Diving since 2009. In addition, I have been a participant in USA Masters Diving competitions since the 2011 Summer Masters National Championship. So far, my proudest personal accomplishments in diving have been representing the United States of America at FINA World’s Diving competition in Budapest, Hungary in 2017 and at the UANA Pan American Masters diving competition in Orlando, Florida in 2018.

In addition to competing, I enjoy helping young athletes learn diving skills, either as beginner divers or advanced athletes. I was a volunteer coach for Cooper City High School for the 2010-2011 & 2011-2012 Swimming & Diving seasons. Currently, I have been coaching at Nova High School since 2017, and I have had the honor of bringing divers to states two years in a row. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the divers that have come through the program thus far, and I look forward to a successful season this year!

Coach Tanner Franklin

Head Water Polo Coach

Coach Tanner Franklin is from San Diego, California and started started playing water polo in high school. As a freshman, Coach Tanner became 1 of 2 freshman to earn a varsity letter in several years at Hilltop High School in Chula Vista. As a sophomore and junior he developed into an every game starter, and became an outside shooting threat for the Hilltop Lancers. He then was honored to be named one of three captains along side his closest friends, who all lead the team to the Lancers most successful season since the 1980 team, an accomplishment that holds to this day.Upon graduation, Tanner stayed for one more year during college and coached Hilltop's novice team. After achieving a graduate degree in finance and establishing himself as a leader in the sports industry, Tanner moved to South Florida to work for the Miami Dolphins where he currently serves as Director of CRM.

9 years have past since Tanner stepped away from the sport, but after finding inspiration to get involved in his new community, he decided it was time to coach again. He took a volunteer assistant coaching role at Nova High School in 2023, is an assistant coach at Breach Aquatics, and has since taken on the head coach role for the boys team in 2024.
