NHEdGIS and the New Hampshire Geographic Alliance is proud to announce the state winners of New Hampshire’s first online map competition for middle and high school students. Students created original online maps focusing on important issues related to New Hampshire ranging from habitats, religion, colleges, sports, drug addiction and more. The creativity and research conducted by these students should really be commended. It is obvious that both students and teachers put forth a lot of time and effort to produce meaningful projects that are informative to their peers and the general public.
Each of the winning state entries received a monetary prize of $100.00 thanks to ESRI’s monetary support and the administrative support provided by NHSTE. The two state finalists for both the middle and high school levels were entered in ESRI’s national map competition. This year NH's middle school state finalist, Andrew Wilson, won the national competition! Esri provided the national winner and his teacher with a travel grant to attend the Esri Education GIS Conference ("EdUC") in California, where the awardee was recognized and he presented his map.
All of the entries were reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges who over the course of three days volunteered their time to examine each map and narrative. After final deliberation the following maps were determined to be New Hampshire state winners and finalists. Special thanks to the judges!
Chris Brehme, Department of Geography Chair, Keene State College
Lara Bryant, New Hampshire Geographic Alliance Coordinator
Al Rydant, Professor Emeritus, Geography, Keene State College
