The Sentinel-Cammell railcars were some of the most idiosyncratic vehicles ever built for the world's narrow gauge railways: coal-fired boiler, engine and controls were inside the coach with the passengers. They were sold on a global basis. Railways of very different character in North and South America, the Middle East, India, Asia, Africa and Australasia (many of them in British colonies) all bought these railcars. Within this excellent and well illustrated book, the author has successfully combined technical discussion with everyday memories of travellers to produce a most readable account.
