Initially all that the residents of Vault 69 knew about this Vault was that it was thought to be located in the Norco area, north of the Mississippi and that many of their initial occupants were meant to go there, but a mix up with transports meant they ended up at the wrong vault.
When they first started to explore, the V69 team found out that the area was said to be dangerous to approach due to Blazing Suns activity. As it turned out, the mercenary raider group's presence there was no coincidence.
The Vault was found to have been subject to a Vault-Tec endorsed experiment. Details of its design where found in the Vault-tec Offices. In a mirror to what happened at V69, this vault closed its door with only one female and nearly 800 male occupants. As Overseer, she controlled the population with a combination of security robots, the possibility of companionship and a program of increasingly violent tournaments. But according to diary fragments found there, one of the men turned the Overseer's security against her and took control. They formed into a collection of small gangs under an over arching creed and moved out from the Vault raiding for supplies and slaves.
By 2147 this vault is in a real mess. Its reactors are offline due to flooding, light comes mostly from fires and some power is available via small generators looted from the surface. The lifts don't function, their shafts now used for moving goods via pulleys. Its lower residential levels are used to house harem slaves and youngsters being groomed to become future sons. The upper levels are dominated by an arena. More recent captives are kept in the old brig while their fates are decided. The medical section is not for the faint hearted, being now more of an abattoir that place of healing.
A selection of text fragments found in Vault 68
My doc said I should keep a journal to help me through times of stress and I guess today really rates pretty high on the old stress meter, so here goes. The bombs have dropped. The world outside is disappearing under a wave of mushroom clouds. It must have been the Chinese but no one knows for sure. But supposedly I'm one of the lucky ones, the Overseer keeps telling us to remember that, like it will make us all forget about what we have lost. Like it will make us forget the monumental mess up that was the evacuation transports. I was lucky enough to get a vault place thanks to my sporting achievements, preserving the nations elite or some such. But I find myself in Vault 68 with somewhere around 600 other men, the only woman being the Overseer, Erika Tyler. She tells us that there has been a mistake with the transports that sent all the women who were supposed to come here to another vault and many of the men who were meant to go there where sent here instead. I pray she is right and that they are safe as there is no chance to correct the error now. There were also supposed to be closer to a thousand people housed in here, Overseer Tyler says that many had not turned up to the evacuation, I guess the bus did seem rather under filled. We are supposed to be stuck in here for the next twenty years. Two decades surrounded by 600 jocks and one woman as our boss, this could be hell.

I totally rule! Smashed Delany in the ring today and earned myself the Engineering Chief gig. I don't know one end of a reactor from the other but Derek will keep the department running, after all I'm going to need to save my energy for keeping the Overseer happy now I have department champion privileges.

Joss Rider with a few others in tow went storming up to the Overseers office to complain about the champion system. Well, not that they got that far. Joss had to fight 10 rounds bare fist with one of the security bots for that stunt. The mess it made of his face, he won't be complaining for a long time.

The tournaments are getting more and more dangerous. These gradual rule changes that the Overseer keeps adding are filling up the infirmary. But most of the men here just can't wait to go back for more. I thought I noticed an oddly high testosterone spike in a couple of samples. But when I tried to bring it up I was told to leave it. Lewis spouted on about it being down to the competition and atmosphere, his only qualification for Vault Physician of course is being able to cut others up in the arena. Good enough reason to do as he says of course.

Derek Colon just pulled off a coup. I can't believe it, everything just changed in a flash. I was stuck behind a desk in admin when it all started. The security bots all went weird just walking round in circles and babbling. A fight broke out down in maintenance with fires breaking out. The bots weren’t working so SHE sent a bunch of her champions to go sort it out. But it was an ambush, I'm glad I only heard it on the intercom and didn't see what happened to them.
Derek just strode up to admin to confront the HER. SHE stood there outside her office, as confident as ever, two gun turrets above her and Drake there rubbing his massive fists together. SHE saw something in his eyes, we all did, it made her flinch. Where she would before have wanted to see him suffer she just ordered the turrets to fire. But they didn't. She told Drake to kill him. The two men's eyes met and Drake decided to go for it, as Colon calmly said "Target Drake". The guns sprang into life and the hulk which was Drake turned into a bloody mess. More of Colon's followers were arriving as SHE retreated into her office and I tried hard to not look like a threat.
It took him seconds to override the lock. The sobs and cries from the room went on and on as man after man took his turn to take revenge for the hold SHE had over us these imprisoned years.

Tormenting the Overwhore has lost its novelty, don't know how much longer she can last anyway. But Colon has big plans, we're going outside. He says there is a world out there that is ours to take, riches, women, slaves and power. We will be the Blazing Sons and everyone will learn to respect us.

I'm really starting to wish I had kept some of the bots in one piece. Trying to keep some sort of control over this bunch is going to kill me. Making use of the little groups that formed after the coup seems to be helping, teams with alpha males is the only way we can function any more it seems. It's only made harder by me being about the only one around here who actually knows how to keep things working.
The surface was ripe for plunder, the teams keep coming back in with more goodies and prisoners from the little scattered survivor settlements. The women we keep as slaves and the men are made to fight to the death for our pleasure. We should hold on to some of them as workers or maybe to sell on. Alcohol might be a problem, we haven't had it for years and despite the bravado no one can really take it like they could anymore and there have been some nasty fights.
Carter's team found something that got them really exiting after taking out a settlement on one of the bridges. He's being cagey but says if he can take some slaves back they can bring back plenty of stuff.

Colon is dead. Dougan got rat arsed and got in Colon's face challenging to be top dog. Colon said something about him being too dumb and before we knew it our saviour's skull was getting crushed into the floor. Dougan was killed just after. We had a really big get together in the arena. The loss of one leader so soon after getting started shook us all. We aren’t ever going to be much on rules but we all agreed a big one. We are the Sons, the Blazing Sons and no Son will wound, kill or rob another Son outside of the arena or they get what's coming meated back out in the arena.
