New Jersey has counties, citys, townships, villages, boroughs, fire districts, etc. All paramedics are employed by hospitals or private ambulances companys AFAIK. The fire departments (FD) do not have any paramedics. Some county sheriffs do operate road patrols IIRC - or some countys have a 'county police department' - otherwise, the county sheriffs just do jail work etc. There are no county FDs. There is 1 regional FD (in Hudson County). Several counties (the more rural ones) have countywide 911 dispatch centers. June 2015 and Oct 2021
Most emergency ambulance service is provided by "first aid squads" and private ambulance companies. (However, Gloucester County has a countywide ambulance service that began in 2007. They are the first and maybe only countywide ambulance service in NJ. 2/19/2022]
