Acer Service Mode

My Acer AL2671W HDTV has started failing, abnormally. Everytime I turn it on, I must turn it on and off a dozen or so times before it turns on properly.

The times it doesn't turn on properly it displays squares of weird patterns, neat little plasma-like fade-ins, blank screens, or doesn't even respond to button presses.

Recently, it goes through the first-time-use menu, everytime I turn it on. All of it's settings appear to be resetting every power down, like it uses a battery inside and it's dead.

And now, it loses color settings that I have to go through the service menu to reset.

As such, these are instructions for me, in a place that I cannot lose them.

So to those of you who find this page, it is useless to you.

Unless you have the same problem. These instructions were for a different Acer TV than mine, but works on mine. It may work on your Acer TV.

If Acer wants these instructions taken down, they can fix my TV for me :P

As a note, before this happened I loved my Acer HDTV, it made the perfect PC monitor and gaming TV.

Acer wants me to pay $4 a minute for tech support, with no guarantee that they can solve it or that I won't be on hold.

Obviously, I won't be gambling like that. I will just have to hold out till a better (3D) HDTV comes along.

1. Set the TV to a non-TV input, that is, select an AV or SCART input.

2. Enter the following button sequence on the remote control: 2, 3, 4, 5, menu

PIC1945 PHOA_1_13 VA1_1_06_NTSC

There is also another "service mode",

1. Press the volume down and channel up buttons on the TV for three seconds.

2. The screen will go black and the the picture will re-appear. Press the menu button.

RGB Gain 384 384 384

RGB Bias 128 64 128

A 3rd menu, "auto alignment mode"

1. Press the volume up and channel down buttons on the TV for three seconds.

2. press menu to quit

A 4th menu, "Factory Reset"

1. Press the volume down and Menu buttons on the TV for three seconds.

2. Power Off and On the TV after reset is complete.

3. Note: This does not reset changes made in "Service Mode"

And another very interresting menu,

1. Press ch + and ch - on the TV for three seconds.

2. You've got a menu on the lower right corner of the screen

3. Use the remote control direction keys (around the OK button) to move throw the menus and to change values

4. You can access a "tweak menu"; a "picture menu"; a BWE menu; more screen sizes; ...

7. Press any other keys on remote to quit

This last menu with the function "image size" seems very interesting because it gives a lot more options than the "wide" button on the remote control :

4:3

16:9

The "1 to 1" size is interesting to try to display from a PC with the DVI or VGA input.

I hope that you will be interested by these informations.

Cheers from Paris !
