General Anatomy of the Skeleton

The term skeleton means "dried up body" or "mummy". You have heard that the skeleton consists of 206 bones. Of course, you also know that it is composed of more bones when you are born. Many fetal bones fuse as we age. The human skeleton is divided into two parts. The axial skeleton, which consists of the skull, vertebrae, sternum and ribs and the appendicular skeleton, which consists of all bones of our appendages.
