Zoom in and select each of the location markers to learn more about the places where Margaret Neely lived in the United States, France, and Cameroon.
She sat down for a one hour interview in 1997 in Kensington, Maryland during which she told us about growing up in Coraopolis, PA and her memories of her parents and grandparents. Angela and John Neely were the interviewers.
In this first part of a 60 minute interview, she shares her memories of her favorite doll, her 5th birthday party, going to the zoo, meeting Thomas Edison, and getting lost in Vineland, New Jersey. She also recounts what she knows of her parents' life before they they got married.
Note: You may need to turn your volume up to hear; there's also a bit of static during the first 7 seconds of the video.
In this second part of a 60 minute interview, she continues to talk about her parents, including their wedding and honeymoon. She also shares her memories of her grandmother and growing up in Coraopolis in the 1930s.
Here are portions of Margaret Neely's memorial service in November 2011 in Lakeland, Florida. Grand children Adam Neely, Amy Smith Toothaker, and Jeff Smith speak, as does Bob Pierce, Jr.
Here are more than 200 letters selected from about 1,000 letters that were written from 1946 through 1983. Most of the letters were from Margaret Neely to her parents, Mary Truman and Edward Burgett Welsh. Some are from David Neely to his mother, Elizabeth Miller Neely.
