Tweets Collected with Storify
In addition, to show examples of how Twitter is used to teach English, as well as the language arts, a sample of tweets was collected using the Storify website. Once the tweets were collected and organized, narrative text boxes were added to explain the sequence of tweets. Each Storify can be viewed directly from this web page or by visiting the Storify site using the links provided.
The first Storify offers a sample of tweets collected from English and Language Arts teachers or their students.
The second Storify was collected using #comments4kids as a search term in Twitter. Often this hashtag is used when teachers are looking for others to read and reply to students' blogs, videos, or other projects. In this way, students potentiallly reach a global audience.
When accessing the Storify, either from this page or from the Storify site, be sure to use the feature at the end of each screen to "Read Next Page."

Giving Students Voice
If you're looking for more information on how one high school is successfully using Twitter, watch this video in which the school principal and students at Leyden High speak about how they are using Twitter. Although the use of Twitter goes beyond the English class and is a school-wide project, it speaks to the power of Twitter and working with students to use this tool in a productive and collaborative way to build a strong sense of community as well as to network globally. You can hear the enthusiasm in the students' voice and their sense of empowerment. The school uses #leydenpride to send tweets.
Video was posted Education Week Teacher (November 14, 2013) in the article, "The Digital Buzz: Using Twitter To Shape Your School Climate."
