Name of the Project: Using Video Projects to reinforce Academic Success
ETC 585 Project Team: Gregory Ardrey and Rafiqa Hawkins
Audience (i.e., grade level, staff positions): Teachers wishing to use Video Projects to engage students in higher order learning.
Purpose of the Project (i.e., what are you teaching? which needs will be met?): Audience will learn some basic video production techniques and ideas for how to create projects for students that will allow them to exercise creativity and learn to do independent research.
Standards: This training will meet NETS-C Standard 2, sections A, B, C, D, and F. It will help teachers meet ISTE Standards for teachers.
Needs Assessment:
What will the students be able to do after the instruction/training? Audience will be able to shoot and edit video using school equipment and software. They will be familiar with several video program formats that might lend themselves to classroom subjects allowing them to design projects that fit their curriculum.
What skills and competencies students are lacking to achieve the intended skills and competencies? Most teachers are not familiar with the tools used to create videos. The teachers who are may be unsure how to utilize the process of creating videos as a way to engage students.
Technical Issues:
What equipment is available for students to use? Cameras (Video cameras are preferred, but iPads and iPhones may be used), A computer lab with editing software (Adobe Premiere or Final Cut is preferred, but iMovie may be used). Tripods and hand held Microphones are recommended.
Technical constraints of the equipment, if any, for online delivery This is recommended as a hands-on lesson delivered in person to allow attendees to learn the hardware. It may be recorded and edited into an instructional video for later review by those unable to attend.
Mode of Delivery: In-person as part of a professional development day activity
Timeline: Approximately 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon.
