About
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
Application
In order to become a member National Honor Society, Lafayette High Chapter, applicant must:
Have taken 4 advanced level classes (AP, DE, Honors) by the beginning of their junior year
Have taken 10 advanced level courses by time of graduation
Have no major referrals resulting in suspension
Completely fill out online application by given deadline
Pay $20 membership fee by October 31st

Qualifications
In order to remain an upstanding member of NHS Lafayette High Chapter, applicant must:
Maintain a 3.500 GPA on the weighted scale (without rounding) and no MAJOR referrals
Complete a total of 25 service hours by the end of the school year with 12.5 of those hours due at the end of the first semester and a maximum of 10 outside hours for the school year
Attend mandatory Induction on September 27
Miss no more than 3 meetings without a valid excuse
Represent the club in a positive light by exhibiting integrity, respect, and achievement within Lafayette High and beyond

Rules:
Tutoring Rules
For all hours, you must sign in and out to receive credit for your time.
If you tutor someone, have them write their name in the corresponding box on the sign-in.
The amount of hours you receive is equivalent to how long you are present in the tutoring area
If you are tutoring someone, you will receive double the amount of hours for the time you are tutoring (ex: Tutor someone for one hour and receive 2. You receive one just for being there!)
Outside Hours (max. 10 per year)
Can be from any non-school related organization
Events/Drives/Volunteer opportunities where members are serving the community
Turn in proof to respective secretary
Credit for said hours are at the discretion of our officers and sponsor
