How to get to your hotel or Kyoto University
From the Kansai International Airport to the JR Kyoto Station
(1) Kansai-airport Express "HARUKA"
The JR airport express trains "Haruka" run between the Kansai International Airport and the JR Kyoto Station (some of them run farther than Kyoto). Haruka trains run twice per hour and it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The fare is 3,370 yen or 3,170 yen (peak or off-peak times) including seat reservation.

The JR West offers "ICOCA & HARUKA", which is a set containing an "ICOCA" IC card (pre-charged with 1,500 yen) and a discounted ticket for the Kansai-airport Express "HARUKA." The ICOCA card is a pre-paid transport IC card, which can be used for JR and other trains, subways, buses etc. in the Kansai area (such as Kyoto and Osaka) and beyond.

(2) MK shuttle
You can take an MK shuttle from the Kansai International Airport to your hotel or Kyoto University. Reservation is required 3 days before your arriving date. Please see https://www.mk-group.co.jp/english/shuttle_kyoto.html. The fare is 4,200 yen. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes (depending on other passengers).
(3) Airport Limousine Bus
Limousine Buses run between the Kansai International Airport and the JR Kyoto Station’s Hachijo-guchi southern exit. Some of them make stops after "Kyoto Station" (such as "Kyoto City Hall" and "Demachi-yanagi Station"). The fare is 2,550 yen.

From the JR Kyoto Station to your hotel or Kyoto University
From the JR Kyoto Station, one way to get to your hotel or Kyoto University is to take a taxi. To Kyoto University, it takes about 20 minutes and costs about 2,000--2,500 yen, depending on taxi companies and the traffic. Another way is to use a subway and/or a bus. To Kyoto University, you can take a bus #17 bound for Ginkakuji via Kawaramachi St. from Bus Terminal A2. Get off at "Kyodai Nogakubu-mae." It takes about 30--35 minutes and costs 230 yen.
From other places (Tokyo or Itami) to the JR Kyoto Station
(1) From Tokyo
If you land at Tokyo (Narita or Haneda airport without a further connected domestic flight), you can take a "Shinkansen Nozomi" express train from the JR Tokyo Station (or the JR Shinagawa Station). It takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes from the JR Tokyo Station to the JR Kyoto Station. The fare from the JR Tokyo Station to the JR Kyoto station is 14,170 yen including a seat reservation.
(2) From Itami
If you arrive at the Osaka Itami airport (by a connected domestic flight from Tokyo), you can take a limousine bus to the JR Kyoto Station, or you can take an MK shuttle to your hotel.

How to get to Kyoto University from your hotel
If your hotel is the Palace Side hotel,
(1) By bus
-- Walk to Karasuma-imadegawa Bus Stop (13 min, 950 m)
(Or take a bus at Karasuma-shimodachiuri Bus Stop (near to the hotel) and get off at Karasuma-imadegawa Bus Stop (3 min, 3 stops))
-- Then take Bus 203 at Karasuma-imadegawa Bus Stop, and get off at Kyodai-nogakubu-mae Bus Stop (9 min, 5 stops)
-- Then walk to the building of the Dept. Math. (2 min, 170 m)
(2) By taxi
You can share a taxi with other participants. From the hotel to the Kyodai-nogakubu-mae Bus Stop, it takes about 10 minutes and costs about 1,500 yen, depending on taxi companies and the traffic.
