13.10.19 Match Report

Brunel Div 2

Old Bristolians 3 v Nailsea 2

Score: 5 - 2 (lost)

This proved to be a game of two halves for Nailsea. Travelling without a keeper proved expensive when defensive confusion resulted in 3 ‘soft’ goals and a 3 – 0 score against them at half time despite excellent play in the field.

With someone adopting the verbal role of keeper and taking control, the defence came together and resulted in a 2 – 2 second half.

Throughout the game the play in the field was evenly matched with both Nailsea youngsters Ellie Richardson and Lily Bartle-Jenkins holding their own. In the centre Mother and daughter, Jo Faiers and Danni Marks shared the player of the match votes. Both were instrumental in forcing the ball into attack. OB’s keeper played well, saving some great shots from Abi Shorney and Cath Hole. Cath finally broke through with a penalty corner strike from the top of the D slamming against the backboard. At the other end two great saves on the line from Carey Barrett kept Nailsea fighting and their second goal came following great play around the D and a lunge by Dani Pearce to convert.

Good team spirit throughout kept Nailsea fighting until the final whistle and with the score at 5-2 the result did not reflect the effort or standard of play.

Brunel Div 2

Weston Super Mare 3 v Nailsea 2

Score: 3 - 0 (lost)

As with most early season games the club was missing a few players and by taking the bare 11 were unable to provide better support to their three young players just moving up from the junior section. It seems their concerns were not needed as all three, Ruby Cairns, Niamh Brodrick and Ellie Richardson, gave a good account of themselves and settled in well with Ellie Richardson taking a strong majority of the votes for Player of the Match. Nailsea created some good passing play and managed to attack the goal but the WSM keeper had an outstanding game and fought to keep a clean sheet.
