Badugu is no doubt a cultured language with a wealth of spoken literature and not written, for it was a language hitherto without a writing system but is no longer one.
The body of Badugu literature contains the wise sayings of Baduga forefathers (Hethe-Hethappana Maathu), prayers (Harakke), lyrical ballads (Kadhe), elegies (Saavu Kadhe), stories (Paame), etc. Most of them are preserved by oral transmission and they are yet to be committed to writing.
