Biography

Myriam Raymond is an artist, scientist, creative writer and senior aikido instructor. She completed the Studio Practice component of a Bachelor of Fine Art in Visual Art at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2008, taking part in the graduate show, Taste Test during graduate celebrations of that year. Her final BFA studies were completed in 2011. She was selected for Fresher, a best-of-graduates exhibition curated by the Inbetweenspaces artist run initiative in 2011.

During her undergraduate studies in visual art, Myriam Raymond's works have been shown in numerous locations around Brisbane, including !Metro Arts, the Accidentally Annie Street Space artist-run initiative and in the Loft at QUT.

In 2007, her short film The Angel on the Mountain won the Inaugural Queensland Poetry Festival Film-maker's Challenge and was exhibited at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Art. A prose poem, on which this film was based, was published in Isaacs Numbers, the QUT Anthology for creative writing in 2008.

In 2009 she was commissioned to write an essay for Pashing Seatbelts, the QUT Visual Arts Honours Year exhibition catalogue. She has also written and published short stories and has contributed to scientific literature.

Having previously trained as a scientist, Myriam Raymond continues to be employed full-time in science while continuing her practice in visual art. She is also a second degree black belt and senior teacher in Aikido Kokikai.
