Soul-stirring album of Mikis Theodorakis dedicated to all those who experienced the cruelty of fascism and resisted. The 4 songs have lyrics of the poet Iakovos Kambanellis who passed two years of his life (1943-45) in the terrible Mauthausen camp in Austria and survived.

Even if you don't understand modern Greek....you can feel the anger ,the pain , the hope and the 'désespoir'.
Such a kind of powerful dramatic ballads with a distinctly feel for 'pathos' is seldom heard in modern music.

(*) Oratorio

The oratorio is a large-scale lyrical musical composition for orchestra, solo voices and choir. Its structure is identical to that of the opera but it differs in that it does not contain any stage theatrical action. In addition, the plot of the oratorios is generally less complex than the dramatic plot of an opera.
In their majority, the oratorios are characterized by a theme based on biblical references and are basically a kind of religious music. However, several composers, such as, for example, Handel , also presented oratorios based on Greek or Roman mythology . In Modern Greek this term is referred to as hymnody .
Oratories are usually distinguished by the following musical parts: an ouverture , various arias for solo voices, the recitita , to promote the plot of the work, and choral parts, usually majestic and imposing. Choirs are often accompanied by drums or trumpets.
Among the most important and most popular oratorios are the Messiah of Handel , the Bach Christmas Oratory, and the creation of Haud . Oratory text is called libretto .
The main differences between the opera and the oratorio are as follows: the opera has essentially social content as opposed to the oratorio which includes religious compositions. Secondly, the opera has stage action and the oratorio is not able to move on to the stage. Both opera and opera are used by professional soloists, usually two of each sex, with different voices. There is the orchestra and the choir, which usually represents popular opinion and opinion.
The oratorio, like the opera, has borrowed enough evidence of the ancient tragedy. They could be considered as her descendants as we see how they look like, since the chorus is basically the dance of ancient tragedy.

Το ορατόριο είναι μεγάλης κλίμακας λυρική μουσική σύνθεση για ορχήστρα, σόλο φωνές και χορωδία. Η δομή του είναι πανομοιότυπη με αυτή της όπερας, διαφέρει όμως στο ότι δεν περιέχει καθόλου σκηνική θεατρική δράση. Επιπλέον, η πλοκή των ορατορίων είναι κατά κανόνα λιγότερο σύνθετη από την δραματική πλοκή μιας όπερας.
Στην πλειονότητα τους, τα ορατόρια χαρακτηρίζονται από μία θεματολογία βασισμένη σε βιβλικές αναφορές και είναι κατά βάση ένα είδος θρησκευτικής μουσικής. Αρκετοί ωστόσο συνθέτες, όπως για παράδειγμα ο Χαίντελ, παρουσίασαν και ορατόρια στηριγμένα σε θέματα της ελληνικής ή ρωμαϊκής μυθολογίας. Στην νεοελληνική ο όρος αυτός αποδίδεται με τον όρο υμνωδία.
Τα ορατόρια διακρίνονται συνήθως από τα εξής μουσικά μέρη: μία εισαγωγή (ouverture), διάφορες άριες για σόλο φωνές, το ρετσιτατίβο, για την προώθηση της πλοκής του έργου, και χορωδιακά μέρη, συνήθως μεγαλειώδη και επιβλητικά. Οι χορωδίες συνοδεύονται συχνά και από τύμπανα ή τρομπέτες.
Ανάμεσα στα σημαντικότερα και πιο δημοφιλή ορατόρια βρίσκονται ο Μεσσίας του Χαίντελ, το Ορατόριο των Χριστουγέννων του Μπαχ και η Δημιουργία του Χάυδν. Το κείμενο που ανάγεται σε ορατόριο λέγεται λιμπρέτο.
Οι κύριες διαφορές μεταξύ όπερας και ορατόριου είναι οι εξής: η όπερα έχει κατά βάση κοινωνικό περιεχόμενο σε αντίθεση με το ορατόριο το οποίο περιλαμβάνει συνθέσεις θρησκευτικού περιεχομένου. Δεύτερον η όπερα παρουσιάζει σκηνική δράση ενώ στο ορατόριο δεν υπάρχει η δυνατότητα κίνησης πάνω στη σκηνή. Και τα δυο -όπερα και οπερατόριο- χρησιμοποιούν επαγγελματίες σολίστ συνήθως δύο από κάθε φύλο, με διαφορετικό ύψος φωνών. Υπάρχει η ορχήστρα και η χορωδία, που εκπροσωπεί συνήθως την λαϊκή γνώμη και άποψη.
Το ορατόριο, όπως και η όπερα, έχουν δανειστεί αρκετά στοιχεία της αρχαίας τραγωδίας. Θα μπορούσαν να χαρακτηριστούν ίσως και απόγονοί της καθώς βλέπουμε πως μοιάζουν, αφού η χορωδία ουσιαστικά είναι ο χορός της αρχαίας τραγωδίας.
