My work lies at the intersection of health economics, development economics, and behavioural economics. My research projects focus on understanding why health care providers and patients make the decisions they do: how providers decide to where to work and how much to do for the patients; how patients choose whether, where and when to seek care. I also study how incentives, information, and prices that can improve those decisions, in contexts such as clinical quality in primary care, antibiotic prescribing, and the take-up of preventive and curative services in low- and middle-income countries. I work primarily with field experiments and other experimental methods, often in collaboration with governments and NGOs.
