TAX RETURN PREPARATION PRICING
According to the NYS Department of Tax & Finance, tax preparers are required to post their fees for income tax preparation. Excluded from their definition of a tax return preparer are CPAs, which I am. I do not post my fee or fee structure not just because I am exempt from this requirement, but also because the complexity of tax returns varies greatly from return to return, client to client. The organization of client records vary greatly from client to client. Therefore, the pricing can vary from one return to another, even if they may look very similar from the final completed return pages.
For returning tax return clients, I send out an organizer annually with the upcoming year's projected price. For new clients, I will provide an estimate based on initial understanding of the complexity of the return and records. Projected prices and estimates may differ from the final invoice amount if it is later determined that the return was more complex, took more time than anticipated, additional states or localities needing to be filed, or various other reasons. I make an effort to communicate changes in prices once I see that they are necessary.
You are always welcome to inquire for more information about your specific situation.
