SUMMER THEATRE CAMP
Musselman Theatre Inc. operates a theatre camp at Musselman High School during the month of July each summer. Our camp, which runs Monday through Friday from 9am to 4:30pm, will produce a full length musical with students ages 8-18 in only two weeks! Students from around the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and the four-state region rehearse as a professional theatre company, preparing a full-length musical during the run of each camp. Through these camps, elementary, intermediate, middle and high school students learn and apply the West Virginia Theatre Content Standards and Objectives at their specific grade level. In addition to producing the show, the younger students participate in several workshops covering artistic, theatrical and historical topics based upon the show being produced.
Musselman High School students assist in operating the camps as Student Interns. Student Interns mainly serve as technical personnel, operating and managing the show as it is performed, but they also help teach the younger students in the workshops, assist the staff members in rehearsals and help to generally run the camp. By participating as a High School Intern, students put into practice the West Virginia Theatre Content Standards and Objectives they learned in theatre classes during the school year. High School Interns also earn credit to assist them in attending theatre festivals and conferences that broaden their theatrical training and networking base beyond the classroom.
Musselman High School theatre alumni, who intend to pursue an arts or education career, gain valuable real-world experience and insight by serving as College Interns for the duration of the camp. These alumni gain directorial and/or classroom management skills by serving as Non-Professional Staff Members. They lead camps, teach soloists and assist in camp management.
