For New Students
Suggestions for New Students from Sally Treadway:
Alfred d’Auberge, “Piano Course,” book 1 and its Note Speller, book 1 (theory). Siblings may share course books but each should have a separate Note Speller for writing.
Bastien, ed., “Piano Lessons” (a white book with a vertical dark purple wide stripe at the left side), level 1 and its Note Speller
“A Dozen A Day,” Mini (pink) – and you can also get the preparatory (blue), and book 1 (green), ed. Bastien
A booklet of staff paper with wide lines, if possible. Most music stores stock these. There are also web resources that generate staff lines to be printed; one such site is http://www.blanksheetmusic.net.
A small, lined notebook (at the grocery store) about 5 x 7 – or whatever you have. Please do not get the pre-made books like this for sale with alternating staff paper. This is just to record the lesson and have the student be able to see what is expected in daily practice.
You can find these books at West Valley Music, 262 Castro St, Mountain View, CA 94041, 650-961-1566. You can also access the books from JW Pepper.com. The store has moved to the north bay, but they send things to you. Check the website.
Better now: pianoatpepper.com , a subsidiary store but with them the shipping is free. It is what I use now.
