The YES universe in London

  Aqui teremos um pequeno guia que  permitirá ao fã  percorrer lugares onde a banda tocou e viveu no inicio da carreira nos anos 60 e 70. Alguns tópicos serão explicados em vídeo pelo conhecido escritor e colecionador da banda : Dave Watkinson , autor de três livros e reconhecidamente um dos maiores conhecedores do universo do YES no mundo, e que me levou a conhecer esses lugares históricos em fevereiro de 2023 quando estive em Londres . Agradeço todo o apoio do Dave que tornou isso possível. O tema é  dinâmico e será acrescido eventualmente de novas informações e dicas ,afinal existem pelo menos 50 lugares mapeados e linkados  á historia da banda em na capital inglêsa .

This site is intended for fans of the British band YES and music lovers in general. It will be possible to visit places where the band played and lived in the beginning of their career in the 60's. Some topics will be explained in video by the band's well-known writer and collector: Dave Watkinson, author of three books and recognized as one of the greatest connoisseurs of the YES universe in the world, and which led me to visit these historic places in February 2023 when I was in London. I appreciate all of Dave's support that made this possible. The site is dynamic and will eventually be added with new information and tips,, after all there are 50 places registered and linked to the history of the band.

   SITE 1 :   PRIMEIRO  LOCAL  DE  ENSAIO  DO  YES  EM 1968  .

Conheça o PORÃO do Café Lucky Horseshoe onde o YES começou seus ensaios e saiu para ganhar o mundo em 1968. Hoje o café / restaurante se chama Wildwood Kitchen  , endereço : 184 Shaftesbury Avenue , Covent Garden, London.  A colocação da placa foi oficializada em 2018 durante as comemorações de 50 anos da banda ; figuras ilustres como Bill Bruford  e o escritor Chris Welch estavam presentes. FIRST YES REHEARSAL PLACE IN 1968   - Discover the BASEMENT of the Lucky Horseshoe Café where YES started their rehearsals and went out to conquer the world in 1968. Today the cafe / restaurant is called Wildwood Kitchen, address: 184 Shaftesbury Avenue, Covent Garden, London. Plaque placement was made official in 2018 during the band's 50th anniversary celebrations; Illustrious figures such as Bill Bruford and writer Chris Welch were in attendance. SITE 3 :   LA CHASSE  .  Clube histórico  vizinho do Marquee , onde Jon Anderson  e  Chris Squire  se conheceram e iniciaram  a compor , formando o que seria o YES.  O Pub surgiu   por um motivo inusitado :  No Marquee a venda de álcool não era permitida ; então seu proprietário, Jack Barrie, teve a ideia de abrir o LaChasse  no andar de cima, com entrada na 100 Wardour Street, onde os músicos e público poderiam beber antes e depois dos shows. Foi aqui que Jon Anderson trabalhava fazendo a limpeza quando foi apresentado ao Chris Squire pelo proprietário.. o resto é história.

Historic club next door to Marquee, where Jon Anderson and Chris Squire met and started composing, forming what would become YES. The Pub came about for an unusual reason: In the Marquee, the sale of alcohol was not allowed; so its owner, Jack Barrie, had the idea of opening LaChasse upstairs, with an entrance at 100 Wardour Street, where musicians and audiences could drink before and after shows. This was where Jon Anderson worked cleaning when he was introduced to Chris Squire by the owner...the rest is history.

SITE 4 :   THE SHIP   .  Um dos pubs mais antigo de Londres , onde os membros do YES e de outras bandas clássicas da cena de Londres se encontravam após os shows . Localizado no famoso bairro Soho, na mesma rua ainda hoje são encontradas  empresas diversas do mundo do show business  .

One of London 's oldest pubs , where members of YES and other classic bands from the London scene would meet after gigs . Located in the famous Soho district, on the same street, several companies from the world of show business can still be found today.

 SITE 6 :  TRAFALGAR  SQUARE - Trafalgar Square , London WC2N  5DN .  Conheça  a praça onde o The Warriors  formado entre outros músicos  por Jon Anderson , seu irmão Tony  e David Foster  ( co-autor de músicas dos dois primeiros discos do YES ) fotografaram para fins promocionais em 1963/64  : Faça como o JON  e tire sua  foto em frente aos Leões  e  ao Chafariz  . Aproveite em conheça a renomada  Galeria Nacional  que fica em frente  á praça  e foi fundada em 1824 , abrigando  uma coleção de mais de 2300 pinturas. Diariamente músicos se apresentam em espaço reservado no centro da praça onde a atmosfera dos anos 60  parece ainda existir..

Get to know the square where The Warriors, formed among other musicians by Jon Anderson, his brother Tony and David Foster (co-author of songs on the first two YES albums) photographed for promotional purposes in 1963/64: Do like JON and take your photo in front of the Lions and the Fountain. Take the opportunity to visit the renowned National Gallery, which is located in front of the square and was founded in 1824, housing a collection of over 2300 paintings. Musicians perform daily in a reserved space in the center of the square where the atmosphere of the 60's seems to still exist.

 SITE 7 :  TRIDENT  RECORDS  - Saint Anne's Court , Soho, Londres , W1F 0BQ . 

Neste mitológico estúdio  bandas  clássicas  gravaram e fizeram história . O viajante não informado ao  observar aquele estreito edifício nunca imaginaria  que alí  bandas renomadas gravaram e fizeram história : o YES  gravou seu primeiro disco no Trident , assim como Queen, Rush, Genesis , David Bowie, James Taylor , Billy Preston, Jeff Beck, Rolling Stones ,Judas Priest, Supertramp , Lou Reed  , Elton John e dezenas de outros artistas., inclusive  é claro, os Beatles que gravaram  ainda o vídeo de Hey Jude neste espaço sagrado. A escolha do Trident se dava pelo motivo da existência de uma mesa para gravação em 8 canais , revolucionário para a época , enquanto que o famoso estúdio da Abbey Road da EMI possuia apenas 4.  O Estúdio funcionou  de 1968 a 1981 , hoje no local funciona uma produtora audio visual . Na entrada foi colocada uma placa em homenagem a David Bowie após a sua morte. 

In this mythological studio renowned bands recorded and made history. The uninformed traveler, observing that narrow building, would never imagine that renowned bands recorded there and made history: YES recorded their first albums at Trident, as well as Queen, Rush, Genesis, David Bowie, James Taylor, Billy Preston, Jeff Beck, Rolling Stones, Judas Priest, Supertramp, Lou Reed, Elton John and dozens of other artists, including, of course, the Beatles who also recorded the Hey Jude video in this sacred space. The choice of Trident was due to the existence of a table for recording in 8 channels, revolutionary for the time, while EMI's famous Abbey Road studio had only 4. The Studio operated from 1968 to 1981, today it operates on site an audio visual production company. A plaque was placed at the entrance in honor of David Bowie after his death.

 SITE  8 :  YES House .  50A Munster Road, Fuham, London .   A banda  viveu aqui no primeiro ano de existência . .. mas não se empolguem :  Eles  ocuparam apenas os quartos com acesso pelo portão de ferro  á direita da foto : Jon Anderson ocupava  um quarto no  andar superior  enquanto que Chris Squire  e Bill  Bruford ocupavam o quarto do porão.  

The band lived here for the first year of its existence. .. but don't get carried away : They only occupied the rooms with access through the iron gate on the right of the photo : Jon Anderson occupied a room on the upper floor while Chris Squire and Bill Bruford occupied the basement room.

SITE  9 :  CAPA  SOMETHING'S COMING  LP  - 42 Munster Road, Fulham, London.  Casa onde a banda foi fotografada e que aparece na  capa da versão Lp do disco Something's Coming - The BBC Recordings 1969-1970.

SITE  10 :  ROYAL ALBERT HALL -Kensington Gore, South Kensington, London SW7 2AP

O Royal Albert Hall é uma das salas de espetáculos mais famosas do mundo. Inaugurado pela Rainha Vitória em 1871, anualmente são realizados  mais de 360 ​​shows. Neste teatro o YES faria seu mais importante show  à época ,ao abrir o concerto de despedida do prestigiado CREAM , de Clapton, Bruce e Baker em dezembro de 1968. O grupo sempre considerou esta casa  como a sua preferida pela excelente acústica. 

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the most famous concert halls in the world. Inaugurated by Queen Victoria in 1871, more than 360 concerts are performed annually. In this theater, YES would play its most important show at the time, opening the farewell concert for the prestigious CREAM, by Clapton, Bruce and Baker in December 1968. The group always considered this house as their favorite due to its excellent acoustics.
