2023 Louisiana Statement Session

Top Performers and Other Eye Catchers

By Lavel Johnson

The 2023 Statement Session produced by Hoopfest tour was held at Southside High School in Youngstown, LA a little over a week ago and many of the top players from the Pelican State were on display.

Top performers:

Trey’Dez Green  6’8”  2024  Forward  Zachary H.S.

Was arguably having the best performance of the camp before going down with an ankle sprang early in the second game of the day. A LSU football commit as a tight end, Green is a big strong athletic forward who plays with a high motor at all times, moving up and down the floor changing ends fluidly. Does most of his scoring at the rim off strong attacking finishes or power finishes after cleaning up the offensive board.  Showed the ability to push the ball down the court after defensive boards and get downhill for powerful finishes also.

Jayce Depron  6’4”  2024  Guard  Madison Prep H.S.

He started his day off with a solid performance in game one that he capped off with a deep contested three pointer at the buzzer for the win. He followed that up later with maybe the best single game performance of the day as he caught fire from three and it didn’t matter where the defense was as he rained threes and scored at will. On top of showing his ability to take over a game scoring wise he was also the Statement Session leader in assist.

Jaylen Peters  6’6”  2024  Forward  Liberty Magnet H.S.

A long armed wiry forward, Peters was a strong and consistent scorer all day. Got to his spot and nailed the mid range jumper and attacked the rim for tough finishes in traffic, a strong defender who gets his hands on lots of balls he was very active and really got out in transition after creating turnovers. Really took a strong leadership role on his team.

Broderick Brooks  6’4”  2024  Wing  Zachary H.S.

Brooks was very active all day and kept getting better as the day went along. He led the Statement Session in scoring on the day and did it in a variety of ways. He was strong off the dribble mixing pullups with drives all the way to the rim. His jumper was solid whether off the catch and shoot or one-two dribble pullup and he showed a solid three point stroke. He was very active on defense and really got out in transition for scores also.
