I studied bioinformatics from 2001 to 2006 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and completed my studies with an internship at the BASF in Ludwigshafen and an external diploma thesis on Hidden Markov Models for the analysis of tumor expression profiles at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin (Schliep lab).

I worked at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) in Gatersleben (Grosse, Strickert, and Friedel labs) from 2006 to 2012 to develop probabilistic methods for the analysis of heterogeneous omics data sets including genomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic data. Based on this work, I obtained a doctoral degree in computational biology in 2010 from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

I joined the Department of Biology of the École Normale Supérieure (IBENS) in Paris from 2011 to 2013 to work on a project on computational epigenetics as a visiting scientist of the Arabidopsis Epigenetics and Epigenomics group (Colot lab).

I moved to the TU Dresden in May 2012 to start to develop probabilistic models and network-based approaches for the analysis of cancer data at the Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC) of the TU Dresden (Beyer lab). I continued to work in this direction at the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) of the TU Dresden (Deutsch lab) from May 2013 to April 2015. I further continued to work in this direction at the University of Cologne (Beyer lab) from April 2015 to December 2015.

Since December 2015, I'm the head of the newly established Bioinformatics Core Unit (BCU) at the Institute for Medical Informatics and Biometry (IMB) at the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden. We develop and apply bioinformatics tools and systems medicine approaches for the analysis of disease-related molecular high-throughput data in close collaboration with wet lab partners.

In May 2022, I defended my habilitation thesis with a focus on network-based analyses in computational cancer research at the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden.
