Hi there! My name is Shirley Yunk and I am a first grade teacher at Heritage Oak Elementary. My educational background includes a degree in Early Childhood Education and Liberal Arts. I am also a certified GATE teacher. I began my teaching career in the Rio Linda Union School District. In Rio Linda, I taught first grade at F.C. Joyce Elementary. In 1994, I moved to Heritage Oak Elementary in the Dry Creek District. Over the years, I have grown close to many of the families here at Heritage Oak and I feel blessed to be a part of this community. It is truly a special school.
When I am not at school, I enjoy being with my family. My husband and I do our best to keep up the many activities our three grown sons are involved in. We enjoy all kinds of sports, camping, biking, boating and kayaking.
I mostly grew up in the Bay Area, but I was born in New York and lived in Norman, Oklahoma for five years. During our time in Oklahoma, my family went to many OU football games and we often attended activities at the university. This is why I chose OU as our class college. Go Sooners!
Many parents ask if I have particular likes as far as coffee drinks, gift cards, etc. My favorite color is pink. I love Snoopy, Winnie the Pooh and anything OU related. I don't drink coffee from coffee shops, but do enjoy many different kinds of tea. I noticed years back that Starbucks blend coffees brought on migraines for so I started only drinking coffee from home. I do love to shop on Amazon! Other than that, I enjoy baked goodies and handwritten notes from my students/parents. There is nothing I appreciate more than a personal note of thanks.
