I expect students to come to class prepared to learn and participate in classroom discussions and activities. Therefore, I expect students to come to class on time and with their daily materials. I have high expectations for students and expect them to give their 100% in my classroom

Discourse in this Classroom
Paw Print for Success
It is important to note that history is often interpreted differently by different sources and viewpoints. In our World History class, we will be exploring various historical events, perspectives, and ideas from different time periods and cultures. I expect that all students follow the guidelines listed below during classroom discussions so that everybody feels comfortable to share their own viewpoints. I believe that these discussions facilitate learning and help students create their own understanding of issues within our world.
Brookings School District Policies IB Academic Freedom & INB Teaching Controversial Issues
Respect Others & Their Viewpoints
Commitment to Our Class, Our Peers, & Ourselves
Speak with Good Purpose & Assume Positive Intent
Good Citizenship (We may all be different but We are sharing this space together)
There are several options for students to express their personal viewpoints on topics that we discuss: journaling, exit ticket box, emailing me, and sending me counter articles/data.
I encourage students to do this daily.
Policies
Honesty Policy
I believe in the importance of academic honesty and honesty between the teacher and the student. Students that choose to violate academic honesty in my classroom will receive a zero on that assignment.
Things I consider violation of academic honesty are:
Plagiarism (copy and pasting from sources...such as the Internet)
Cheating off peers
Using non-approved resources on tests, exams, and assignments (such as cell phones, worksheets, & "cheat-cheats")
I reserve the right to make decisions regarding academic honesty on case by case issues
This is Mrs. Lovseth's classroom honesty policy. This list also includes the policies listed in the BHS handbook.
Late Work Policy
Homework is due during the designated class period.
Students are expected to be responsible for their grade. This includes regularly checking infinite campus and self advocating for oneself when there is a discrepancy.
I encourage students to print their assignments two days before the assigned due date in order to prevent "printer delays" .
I reserve the right to make decisions about late work on a case by case issue.
