Description - In this high school course, students will explore various topics of general chemistry.
The course will include the following units of study: Matter and Measurements; Atomic Structure; Electrons in Atoms; The Periodic Table; Naming Compounds; Ionic and Metallic Compounds; Covalent Bonds; Chemical Quantities; Chemical Reactions; Stoichiometry; Gas Laws; Solutions; Thermochemistry; Acids and bases, and Oxidation Reduction.
A typical unit will take approximately two weeks. Each unit will include lectures, hands on activities, handouts, labs, videos, quizzes and a test.
Materials: Please bring these materials to class each day.
1. Notebook and/or Folder: Something used for taking notes and keeping handouts.
2. Writing utensil: Pen or pencil, bring more than one.
3. Calculator: Any simple scientific calculator.
Grading:
Marking period grades will be based on the following categories:
Tests/Quizzes 40%
Labs 20%
Homework 10%
Quarterly Assessment 30%
