In this unit we will examine Islam as a religion, and look at how and why it spread so quickly.

"Cultural Diffusion" is the term historians use to describe the ways objects and ideas spread from one culture to another. Complete this exercise to learn more about the process of cultural diffusion. (NOTE: If you are doing this in class, this exercise is part of your handout.)

Before we can look at documents, we need to know a little bit about Islam, and how it got started.

Now that we know a little bit about how Islam got started, let's look at a few documents:
