Hello! It is nice to meet you. My name is Dan Hines and I am originally from Rapid City, SD. For as long as I can remember I have loved music. Sure, I grew up playing a bunch of different sports (football, baseball, basketball) but I have always been drawn to music. When I was in the 5th grade I began playing in the school band and I never looked back! Since that time music has allowed me to meet many different people, go to different cities and countries, and spend time doing something that I loved. Today, even though all of my bands and touring have come to an end, I still carry those memories and experiences with me. If you ever want to talk about music - you can always knock on my door! So, I am guessing you are wondering how I came into teaching? To be honest with you it has been a long journey. If you would have asked me when I graduated from High School if I would be teaching when I was older I would have laughed. My teaching journey began in Fargo, ND / Moorhead, MN. When I graduated from high school I found a music recording/ technology program at Minnesota State University Moorhead. As a student I needed a part time job. I began working for the Boys and Girls Club of the Red River Valley. I quickly began looking forward to seeing the children who came to the Club, hearing about their day, and being a mentor. I quickly moved up the ladder and was an administrator/trainer who oversaw programming and staff at eight different locations. One day turned to a week, a week into a year, and before I knew it I had been working for the club for 13 years! The Club gave me two things: 1 - I met my wife Ann, 2 - it made me want to teach! In 2012 my wife and I moved from the Fargo area back to Rapid City, SD. I enrolled at Black Hills State University, my wife was hired by the City of Rapid City, and we added a new member to our family - our dog Stanley. We enjoy hikes in the Black Hills, grilling on summer days, and cheering on the NDSU Bison!
