About the Teacher & Contact Info

My name is Jeff Brethauer and I would like to welcome you and your child into our classroom this year. We will have a very fun and productive year as we explore the 5th grade curriculum. There will be many volunteer opportunities for parents who would like to come in throughout the year also. Student achievement is my first priority and I will work hard to make sure every student experiences success. I am very excited to join Hopkins Public Schools as their new 5th grade teacher.

I graduated from Ferris State University in December of 2010 with a Degree in Elementary Education with focuses in science, language arts, and early childhood education. I was introduced to working in Hopkins as a substitute teacher, after finishing my student teaching at East Kelloggsville in an all day at-risk Kindergarten. I worked mainly in Sycamore and could see the pride Hopkins parents have in their children's education. Last year I was a Paraprofessional at East Kelloggsville working with Kindergarten through 5th grade students, focusing mainly on reading and writing. Over the summer I taught a Kindergarten and 1st grade split classroom, also for Kelloggsville Public Schools.

I live in Dorr and graduated from Wayland. Like many residents in our area I love many outdoor activities, especially kayaking, biking, and fishing. In addition to outdoor activities I also play many sports for recreation but also like to slow things down sometimes and read a good book. I have an interest in science and hearing about new discoveries and look forward to sharing my passion for the subject as I teach your children about the world around them.

I will be sending home information about classroom procedures and management along with additional information about our class and the school year with your child during the first week of school.
