CURRENT PROBLEMS BRADISH COURSE SYLLABUS
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. To acquaint students with basic terminology.
2. To acquaint students with basic concepts, principles, people, and places.
3. To help students become aware of current events and their effects on them.
4. To help students analyze and possibly solve current problems.
**5. To help students think critically.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:
Lecture, Discussion, Small group discussion, Videos, Quizzes,
Writing assignments, Projects, Examinations, & On-Line (computer) Instruction
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS AND METHODS OF EVALUATIONS:
Class participation, Regular attendance, Reading in the textbook, Outside readings, Oral reports, Writing assignments, Quizzes, Examinations, Projects, & Portfolio
GRADING SCALE:
All grades are comprised of numerical assessments.
90 - 100% = A 80 - 89 % = B 70 - 79 % = C 60 - 69 % = D 59 & below = F
HOMEWORK POLICY:
Homework assignments will be given to reinforce the content covered in class. It is very important that your child attend class every day and do the assignments when given, to ensure understanding of the material.
· Tests are always announced; quizzes may or may not be.
· Late assignments are penalized 10% pts for each day late.
· CHEATING will result in a ZERO for the assignment.
· If you are AWOL -you will receive a 0 for assignment/quiz/test/ etc that occurred that day.
· All late work and extra credit is due 1 week prior to the end of the 9 weeks grading period.
Assessment Retake Policy:
Students will have the opportunity to retake a quiz or test provided the following conditions are met:
· All work (notes, worksheets, homework, activities, etc.) must be completed before the initial assessment is taken.
· The assessment retake will NOT be the same as the initial assessment.
· Additional work will be assigned to reinforce concepts. This additional work must be completed before the retake.
· The retake must be completed within one week of the initial assessment.
EXTRA CREDIT:
All extra credit is due 1 week prior to the end of the 9 weeks grading period. See me for ideas.
CLASSROOM RULES

All video and/or audio recording without instructor permission is prohibited.
1. Students are to follow all school rules found in the student handbook.
2. Students are to bring all required materials to class daily.
3. Students are to be on time and in their seats when the bell sounds.
4. Students are responsible for making up any work missed during absences.
5. Students shall show respect to the instructor, yourself, one another, and
property (school/personal).

Verbal warning, detention, phone call/e-mail parent/guardian, Parent-Teacher conference, Parent/student/teacher contract
*Teacher retains the right to change/modify/update all rules & consequences at any time.

A. Analysis of chosen articles B. Reports of chosen subjects
II. Journal Articles
A. Students will clip out newspaper articles on various subject matter
B. Student reports and summarization of articles
III. Intro to Philosophy/Political spectrum
IV. Research Paper ? ( or Mini papers)
A. 8-13 pages Typed
B. Bibliography Page with min. 8 sources
C. Current problem (or Person)
V. Debates
A. Causes and Effects of problems B. Communication among groups
C. Persuasion of individuals
VI. Books - Students will read George Orwell’s 1984,
Ron Paul’s The Revolution, and Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals
