Advice for New Students from 2011-2012 Students

From Students Expecting to earn an A...

Give yourself time to do the homework because you don't want to procrastinate and not be able to complete it. This way you can atleast keep a high homework grade if you don't do as well on the tests... study your vocab notecards also, they help alot on the tests!

DO YOUR CORNELL NOTES AND NOTE CARDS AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

do home work on the weekends, study for all exams no matter what, take practice tests online, and look over vocabulary cards.

Frst off, dont get all freaked out because it is an "AP" class. I think the AP name scared people before the even walked into the door. Mr. Ayers is an awesome teacher and a nice guy too,and he is also pretty funny. He makes the class fun and enjoyable. Make sure you look at the unit guide and know when all of your homework is. This homework is really important for 2 reasons, it is weighted heavally, and will kill your grade if you dont do it, and secondly, it is the primary way to prepare for tests. in all, if you try your hardest, work hard, and stay on top of things, this class will be really fun for you, and you will learn allot.

Do all your home works and class works. look over the vocab note cards and the study guide in order to study for the tests. take the practice tests that are offered online for free.

Don't be freaked out by the beginning of the course, there's a lot of work but it does get easier as you figure out how everything works and become comfortable in the class. Read the book, study your flashcards, study the study guides. Everything you need to be successful is in those resources.

I would tell them to read the book and to get ahead on their assignments. If you procrasticate you probably won't get much sleep all year because you will be up all night or you won't do it and get a bad grade. The assignments are a lot of the points for the class and if you do them all you will at least get a C. However to get an A in the class you want to study for the tests. This is how I studied and got A's on most tests. For the multiple choice start with one chapter and read over your study guide. Then you need quiz yourself on the note cards until you know them all. Next take the online quiz and practice quiz in the book and review the correct and incorrect answers. Also going and looking at the free responses helps too, but in my experience if you know the material there is no reason to memorize the free responses. Just pay attention in class, take notes, do every homework assignment, and study and you will do fine. This class is a ton of work and you just have to put time into it. If you are lazy you won't get a good grade, this is just a fact. Don't worry about the first week he is trying to scare you away, don't let Mr. Ayers fool you he is harmless. He is a great teacher, and also has funny jokes. You will learn a lot and remember it gets easier, the first week is to seperate the weak from the strong.

If you are going to copy, only copy cornell notes or reading questions. Do your study guide because you actually need to know the material and even if you say you will go back and read, trust me you wont. Go to all of the review sessions. Use the online resources, I studied for every test by taking the textbook exams. Lastly, treat Mr. Ayers well, he is such an amazing teacher. Laugh at his jokes and make him snickerdoodles. IF YOU DONT, I WILL FIND YOU.

I would advise the new students to make an outline for each chapter on their own studying time so they can use that outline to study for the AP Test. Ask questions, and participate so you better understand the topic. DO NOT procratinate especially on the projects and study guides. Study the vocabulary words verbatimely so you remember them.

I would stay up to date on current issues in the government, as making personal connections with the material will lead to a deeper understanding bringing success in the class.

Do all your work in class. Make sure you pay attention to the book because most of the test is composed of questions on topics that were in the book.

always be reviewing the material. Even if you have no real homework that, go over your notes or vocab. STAY AHEAD OF THE GAME!!!

MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY. You are going to fail if you can not master this skill.

My advice would be to always pay attention in class. You should also do all the flashcards and study guides, but the most important thing is to STUDY. Study for all the tests, and do the practice quizzes, and look over the FRQs online.

Stay on top of your work!!!!!!!! Know what is coming up and if you have free time during the weekend and you know there is a busy week coming up spend atleast some of that time working to get ahead. There is alot of work but you can do it if you decide you are going to. Procrastination is not a good thing for this course.

I would advise students to look at the college-board website, print out all the free response questions, and take practice AP Exams online.

From Students Expecting to Earn a B...

Study and do all of your assignments

to study and dont waste time and dont try to copy workl cuz it wont help

I advise them to not think it is going to be an easy course, it is a very interesting, interactive and entertaining course, but you must also keep up with your work as there is much of it to be done.

READ! The more reading you do, the more understanding of the subject matter you will have. Reading will give you the insight that you need to pass the quizzes and tests

just take time and read through all the papers and articles. Do all your work and if you do all of your work you wont have to spend so much time studing for tests.

They need to learn how to take proper notes. The majority of the homework was taking cornell notes and if you take those badly then what you learn out of the articles is really nothing.

I would say really try to make a study schedule because this class can go really fast and you always want to be on your a-game. Also I would say study old free responses because they really do help. NEVER STUDY THE NIGHT BEFORE A TEST!!! You need time to really understand the subject and unit.

The best thing you could do in order the be successful in the course is to study your flashcards, read the textbook, and read all of the handouts that you are given.

Advice I would give is to do all your assignmnets because they are the largest part in your grade. Participate often by having a clear understanding of what you would be disscussing, and read until you do understand it. Study a few days in advance for the unit test. Study flashcards and practice FRQ's.

I recommend that you do ALL of your homework. Don't miss one assignment or it will hurt your grade a lot. I also recommend that you do the online chapter tests to prepare for the multiple choice part of the test. Many times you will see the exact same question from the review online on the actual test. To prepare for the free responses go to the college board site and look through all the questions to see if any relate to what youre doing. It seems like a lot of work but it really helps you.

I recommend studying hard for all the tests and looking at the free responses on line because they helped me a lot.

FRQs. FRQs. FRQs. Free Response Questions can help or hurt you through out the year. Study your vocab cards and look over your notes you take in class. Highlight main points made so you will be better prepared for the FRQs. Plus don't get lazy. Keep refering to your class schedule every night even if you don't think you have homework. I forgot to check it once or twice and missed homework assignments. Dont do that!!!!

Read everything twice

do the work and trust that mr ayers will help you and steer you on the right path to get a 5 on the ap test

The most beneficial advice I can give you is to do ALL of the work. Do not take the luck of the draw, and do part of the work. Essentially, most of the time you will get credit. But Mr. Ayers assigns the work for a reason. The students who complete all of the work will get better quiz grades, and overall, do the best on the AP exam.

I would want to let the students know to STUDY STUDY STUDY every unit study guide, key terms, etc. and you will be well prepared for every test given. Also, looking at older Free Responses will help as well!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Don't copy other homework, complete it on your own. Review and study the notes, as well as notecards, after they are given. Take the practice multiple choice tests on the texbook website and the FRQ too. Ask questions, even when you feel they're stupid. Complete and review the study guides and most important do all of your assinments, projects, and participate.

I would tell the new students to read through each chapter and make sure to do the study guides. They are a useful tool to study to pass the tests given. Do all your work that is given because they are crucial to your grade. Don't procrastinate! Study off of the vocabulary cards that you make. Many of the questions on the tests have to do with them.

don't slack if you do , you will fall behind

Do ALL of your homework. And study even if you don't think you need to.

Do the assignments and everything else will fall into place.

don't be lazy. get your work done asap

Don't try to just get by, do the class to your full potential and do all the work, and you might enjoy it.

Put effort into it and you should do fine.

Don't try to do too much on the projects.

STUDY STUDY STUDY, AND COMPLETE AL;L OF THE EASY GRADES LIKE STUDY GUIDES AND NOTES

STUDY STUDY STUDY, AND COMPLETE ALL OF THE EASY GRADES LIKE STUDY GUIDES AND NOTES

STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!

Do the summer work and make sure to do all homework because each unit intertwines so if you dont do it, it makes the other ones that much harder and understand it all because again it all goes together.

i would say they need to make sure to do all their homework and study for every test even if it's just for a little while.

Make sure to do all assignments because no matter what you get on test assignment like homework are somethings everyone should be able to get 100% on.

STUDY

My advice would be to STUDY, STUDY, and STUDY some more. You can't expect to pass the class if you don't study. Another piece of advice would be to read the passages thouroughly and look at the free response before the test.

From the Student Expecting a C...

to definitely read. and study. reviewing your notes and readings is a key point in the class
