This is a walkthrough for my World Food Logic Puzzle on Sporcle.
In this walkthrough, I will refer to clues by the answer they are linked to.
MOROCCAN’s clue tells us that the plate color in row 2 is YELLOW, and that the non-European kitchen in row 2 is INDIAN.
YELLOW’s clue tells us that Goulash, a HUNGARIAN dish, has to be in the quiz. As it was presented after another dish, it can’t be the first dish, and therefore has to be the 5th dish presented (as per INDIAN’s clue). That means that NIGELLA LAWSON was the chef who prepared the 4th dish.
Because there was at least one dish before and after Wolfgang Puck’s (NIGELLA LAWSON’s clue), he has to be the chef of the 2nd or 3rd dish. The white plate therefore has to be the 1st or 2nd to be served. Because the 2nd plate has already been filled, the 1st plate is WHITE.
WHITE’s clue tells us that Moussaka has been served. That is a Greek dish. Only the first and last served dishes were European, and the last spot has already been taken by Hungarian, so GREEK is the European option for the first dish.
To resolve GREEK’s clue we need to consider some combinations that have to be in the grid. Jamie Oliver (the Naked Chef) has to share his row with Italian as European option. The only rows with both the chef- and European cells still open are 2 and 3. We have seen that Wolfgang Puck has to be in row 2 or 3 as well. That means those two rows are ruled out for Raechel Ray. She has to share her row with Thai as non-European option. That rules out row 1, so RAECHEL RAY and THAI have to be in row 5.
THAI’s clue tells us that Gordon Ramsay has to be in the grid. As Wolfgang Puck and Jamie Oliver occupy row 2 and 3 (in any order), GORDON RAMSAY has to be in row 1.
(Side note: GORDON RAMSAY’s clue is the last clue in the quiz.)
GORDON RAMSAY’s clue tells us that there is a male chef (the clue says *his* black plate) who discarded French as European kitchen. We know Gordon Ramsay discarded the Moroccan kitchen, and Jamie Oliver discarded Italian. So Wolfgang Puck is the chef who discarded French food for his black plate. Because the 2nd plate is yellow, WOLFGANG PUCK, FRENCH and BLACK have to be in row 3. That means that JAMIE OLIVER, who discarded ITALIAN, was the second chef to serve.
From RACHAEL RAY’s clue, we learn that MEXICAN and GERMAN have to share a row. The only row where this is possible, is row 4. That means (RACHAEL RAY’s clue) that the red plate is in row 5.
To fill the last two squares, we need to look back to the THAI and WHITE clues. Those tell us that there has to be a green plate, and that Sushi (so Japan) has to be in the grid. And thus the last two cells can be filled: GREEN in row 4, and JAPANESE in row 3.
Done!
