An Introduction to Standards-based Assessment and Grading
Traditional grading practices are blindly used in the majority of classrooms even though the practices are flawed and hinder student learning and motivation. This presentation will introduce how standards-based assessment and grading can transform your classroom into an environment where student learning, motivation, and common sense thrive.

Ryan Rathje
Ryan Rathje has served WELS/ELS schools in various capacities from grades 3-12. He earned his bachelor’s degree from MLC (Elementary Ed Math), master’s from UW-LaCrosse (Professional Development), and doctorate from Walden University (Curriculum and Assessment). His interests and research revolve around: grading and assessment practices, formative assessment, professional development, and curriculum mapping. He currently serves as Academic Dean and instructor at St. Croix Lutheran Academy, and as a graduate adjunct faculty member for Martin Luther College.
