Luther and Education (Keynote -- All Levels)

This session will address the stages of the special education process, with keeping students in the least restrictive environment as the ultimate goal. Best practice ideas for supporting students in the classroom who have not yet been identified or officially classified as needing special education services will be addressed. The session will also discuss when to proceed with a formal special education referral and how to collaborate with the public school to meet the child's needs. School-specific questions are welcome! There will be time at the end of the session to ask any questions you may have regarding special education.

About the presenter - Alanna Lienig currently serves as a full-time professor in the Education department at Bethany Lutheran College and as an adjunct professor for MLC's graduate program. Alanna also teaches a few sections of Exceptional Learner for MLC's undergraduate program. Alanna taught both special education and general education from preschool to twelfth grade before taking on administrative roles including Special Education Coordinator, Director of Special Education Resources, and Principal.
