About Us

The 2018-2019 school year will start off with the "Sapphire Sound" Marching Band and Color Guard rehearsing for field tournaments, band reviews, and other school/community performances. In the spring semester, the Marching Band breaks into three ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the Concert Band.

Members from the Band have the opportunity to audition for the Musical Pit Orchestra ("Beauty and The Beast"), be a part of Pep Band, form small ensembles, or be a part of the solo and ensemble concert in the spring. Students will also be encouraged to audition for the San Diego Unified School District Honor Band, All-Southern CA Honor Band, and All-State Honor Band. The 220-member Marching Band and Color Guard is presenting our field show, "The World We Live In". We invite you to join us at a home football game, our Annual Band Tournament hosted at school on November 3rd, and/or at our Winter Concert on December 6th, 2018.

Our program believes in hard work, focus, commitment, and having a pride of excellence in music! The Band room is a second home for many and my door is always open.

(AKA: Mrs. C)

28 years in the education field, I have had the belief in "Music" and all that it can do for a student. The arts are essential to the academic success of any student and it is my passion to help students along through these four years of high school. Within the Band and Color Guard, we have a comprehensive program. Students can learn and develop their instrumental skills, take AP Music Theory, which will help their growth in music comprehension and composition, have repeated opportunities for performance, set high goals and standards, and have the opportunity to become a student leader. Accountability and teamwork are essential in each class. "All in", "Passion in Performance", and "Never Give Up" is something we live by here at MMHS.
