This Week's Information

PARENT & GUARDIANS - If you have been looking for volunteer opportunities this may be your chance to get in on the fun. Our color guard is in need of 30 new practice flags and our goal is to have them ready by the start of band camp on August 15th. While it would be helpful if you sew or have a machine, no sewing experience is required. We also need help with cutting, pinning, and ironing. Feel free to come and meet some other parents within the program.

When - Sunday, Aug 7th from 10:30am-3:30pm. Please contact Heather Bartnek to RSVP and to receive more details at:

THURSDAY & FRIDAY: Sapphire Sound Leadership Days from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. This is for all Band and Color Guard leaders which includes Drum Majors, Color Guard leaders, Section Leaders, and Band Council. More information is in the Leadership google classroom.

BAND UNIFORM SIZING on Friday (8/5) from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Be sure to wear a t-shirt and athletic shorts to be sized for your uniform. The parents and uniform crew have sized over 120 students. It has been a great turnout! Thank you parents and crew for your help! If you have the opportunity to size this week, then come by school.

What to wear for sizing for the Band uniform - Comfortable clothes such as a t-shirt (no crop tops), shorts, and athletic shoes

COMPLETE THIS REGISTRATION FORM to hold a spot in this year's field show! This form is for ALL Band and Color Guard students for the fall semester. Each year it takes planning and money to design the field show for our marching program. Each student has an important role on the field and will be assigned a set spot for the show. Complete the registration form to ensure you (or your student) has a spot with us for our field show and parade band. (Many completed this form in June, but this is another opportunity to complete it if you didn't. Front Ensemble percussionists also need to complete the form.)

FALL CAMP is almost here! The days are broken into sessions that each have a focus of learning. Camp begins on August 15 for all band and color guard students. Be sure to add into the Google Classroom and locate important information. Our fall camp is an essential start for the Band and Color Guard each year. Similar to sport teams, the Band program prepares for the fall marching season which has performances and competitions for an eleven week season. Raising Funds for the Sapphire Sound

Believe it or not, each year our operating budget is close to $250,000 to help bring opportunities to the students of the Sapphire Sound. All of our transportation, music, instruments and equipment, marching staff, color guard staff, and more comes from us being able to raise the funds needed to maintain this high quality program. We work hard at raising money through various fundraisers such as our annual Band Tournament, Pancake Breakfast, “Making the Cut” chili and bbq contest, restaurant nights, individual donations, and many more. It takes a wonderful village to support each student who wants to participate in this award-winning program. We also believe that no student will be denied the opportunity to participate in the Sapphire Sound due to individual monetary factors. On average the breakdown of costs per student totals just over $1,000 each year.

From this $1,000 per student, we have a transportation and field trip contribution of $350 that we ask for your help with. If you are able to help contribute, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to MMIMB (non-profit 501c3). To help make things easier you can make your donations via PayPal or Credit Card on the band website. Thank you for your support!

Ways you can help bring opportunities to our students:

We encourage you to pay what you are able with this year's transportation and field trip costs of $350 per student.

Do you have a matching funds program at your office or place of work? This is a wonderful way to double your support. Email our treasurers, Whitney Fabrie at: or Yolanda Vallina at: to receive the tax id information and get help with this matching gift.

Sponsor a prop for $50! Our field show has several props each year including brand new front drops that border the sideline of the field. We are happy to have your name added to the sponsors list on the Band website.

Purchase a Show Shirt for a Band member. This is a unique year that requires a unique uniform. Please consider purchasing a special designed top that students will perform in. Your donation of $50 will help with the purchasing of 175 shirts.

Sponsor an instrument or donate an instrument. There's no denying instruments are expensive. Most of the instruments in the band cost somewhere between $1,200 - $9,000. If you are able to help contribute any monetary amount to the instrument fund, please consider giving a donation. If you have an instrument that isn't being used at home, send it in to the program. We are grateful to provide instruments to any student who needs one for the school year.

Color Guard equipment. The color guard uses flags, flag poles, faux rifles and sabres, and other equipment to help enhance the performance of music on the field. To sponsor a flag or flag pole is $25 and faux rifles or sabres are $50.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS: Tanya Mercado is offering 30-minute sessions for students and families. A portion of each session will be donated back to the program. This is a great opportunity to have family holiday photos taken or senior pictures. There is only 40 slots available. Click HERE to book your session with our alum parent, Tanya.

MAKE A DONATION: If you are able, please consider making a donation to the Band and Color Guard program via PayPal or Credit Card.

Amazon Smile - Let's shop online! If you like to order online via Amazon, then type in "Mira Mesa Instrumental Music Boosters", then enjoy shopping like always. Every little bit helps our students. Thank you!
