You are what you eat. No, eating fruit cake does not make you crazy, nor does eating carrots and broccoli cause you to enter a vegetative state. But if you want good, basic health you have to eat good, basic food. You also have to have an overview the effects of different nutrients on the body, and possibly adjust what you eat when any illness strikes. Perhaps more importantly, you have to care about your health and that of your family sufficiently that you are prepared to make changes (if necessary) in your lifestyle, to allow for better nutrition and better health.
I am not a medical professional. I do, however, read and research widely. From discovering the writings of Adelle Davies, an American nutritionist in the middle of the 20th century, through to much study and discussion of so-called alternative medicine, I have become increasingly convinced that the majority of illness is related to lifestyle.
I am thankful to live in the 21st century, with excellent access to health care, which I would certainly use if, for instance, I broke a limb, or experienced severe ongoing chest-pain. But in the past twenty-plus years I have not even visited a GP. Despite suffering various minor ailments over the years, have found that they all respond to a change in diet, or lifestyle, or possibly vitamin supplementation.
This site is not intended to replace medical advice. Babies, the elderly and the chronically ill may need rapid medical assistance if they run high fevers, or seem lethargic, or experience sharp pains. The advice here is based on experience and research, and may be of value in dealing with day-to-day maladies: ongoing headaches, rashes, minor aches and pains. But please trust your instincts, and seek the advice of a trusted doctor, or go to hospital, for any condition that seems serious.
