MRTA Minutes March 12, 2020
President Pam Kauflin called the meeting to order by leading The Pledge of Allegiance and God Bless America.
Pam welcomed Donna Abernathy to our unit.
Eric Johnson presented the program. He was Farmington's Teacher of the Year for 2019. He now teaches pre-engineering classes at Farmington Middle School.
He's involved in PLTW which stands for Project Lead The Way. He helps students build confidence and solve problems of everyday life. He shared the reasons why he became a teacher and his personal background.
Diane Clark read the minutes of the February meeting. They were approved as read.
Nancy Bess gave the treasurer's report stating we have a balance on hand of $1,855.20. The report was approved.
Lori Warren Community Service chairman reported she's impressed with our unit's community service totals on the 2019 end of the year report. Pam stated that statewide the value of community service hours is over 20 million dollars. Continue to keep track of your volunteer hours, number of food items, and cash donations for hunger relief. If you need a form, see Lori or Pam.
Informative and Protective Services chairman Diana Pattengill informed us about
Social Security and what they won't do. They won't call you unless it's a call back, they won't ask for your Social Security number because they already have it, and they will not suspend your number.
Under legislative concerns watch for Call to Action emails and respond to them by contacting senators and representatives. The governor and some other candidates have taken money from Rex Singuefield. Make yourself aware of those candidates. Charter schools and vouchers are still a major concern affecting public education.
Nancy Lynch will check with Culver's about our unit working to raise money for scholarships.
Our unit's website has been updated. Go to the MRTA website and scroll down to local unit websites and you'll find Mineral Area. We have our calendar of events, minutes of the last meeting, and links to go to for information.
Forrest T. Jones is no longer with MRTA but AMBA is. More information will be given at a later date. Nancy Lynch or Pam Kauflin will see if a representative from AMBA will be at the May Region 11 meeting.
Those present went through lists of names who have not renewed their state and local membership. Our members chose people to contact.
Pam Kauflin adjourned the meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Clark, Secretary
