The Characters

Rin's first artwork of all main characters (Tramlink is missing)

The Mind the Gap has 14 main characters, something quite big for a storyteller to manage.

11 characters refer to each of the London Underground Lines, while the remaining 3 characters represent the other 3 railway systems managed by Transport for London, the London Overground, the Docklands Light Rail and the London Tramlink.

There is no exact idea about how the group came to be and how Transport for London acknowledged this group has "a faithful, human representation of our transport system", giving them the opportunity to collaborate in the everyday life of the Tube and reserving an exclusive place for them to gather, called "Little King's Cross".

The only thing we know is that this is a group of normal children and teenagers, some with familiar bonds and that each one was seen to have the personality of the London Underground in a human form. For a year they got to know each other for the line or system they represent and even decided to be in the same school in the upcoming year. This is the point where our story starts.

All characters have some sort of deep connection either with the Tube or the City of London, besides their personality and hair colour. Some are enthusiastic about certain things, others are well known for their abilities and achievements. Some take their free time to be already useful to the community, others are still taking their time for what they like.

The characters were thought to be not only human representations of Transport for London's railway systems, but to be also representations of real-life situations. Not only they'll show how the Tube works, how to travel on it and how to get the most out of it, but their interaction will show aspects of early experiences in life, all the friendliness talks and jokes and some possible disagreements and conflicts.

Nothing like meeting each character and knowing what they are in the group and in the story.
