Weekly lessons are required for all students in the band program throughout the school year.
Students will be placed in homogeneous groups (same instruments) from the same performing ensemble. Students will be scheduled for one lesson per week, always occurring on the same day. Small group pull-out lessons will rotate throughout the school day in order to minimize academic impact.
Each week during lessons, students will be assigned material to practice for the next week. This will either be lines from their method book or excerpts of literature to be performed in a concert. The majority of material assigned for practice will have been learned during lessons and is expected to be mastered at home. Students will very seldom be asked to learn a brand new piece of music on their own.
Students may speak to Ms. Dutcher the morning of their lesson if they would like to try to make up their lesson at a different time than it is scheduled. Acceptable reasons for requesting a make up lesson include taking a test, giving a presentation, having a guest reader, etc. during the class when band is scheduled. Depending on the day and period, rescheduling may not be an option.
