Beginner Band

BEGINNER BAND INFORMATION

CLASS EXPECTATIONS: 

Students will not be graded on ability. They will be graded on responsibility.  They must bring all materials needed to class, and make an effort to try their best.  

DAILY SCHEDULE: 

Students will come to band the same time everyday!  

NEEDED ITEMS: 

Students will need a 1 inch 3 ring binder, a pencil, a band book, an instrument, and any accessories needed to make the instrument play properly.  Grades will be lowered if students do not have what they need to succeed.

MUSIC KNOWLEDGE TEST: 

Beginner band members must have a basic knowledge of music before we begin with instruments.  Students will learn note names, rhythm values, symbols and vocabulary.  They will take a written test to prove that they understand this information.  Once they pass the test with an 85%, they will be cleared to begin working with their instrument.  Students will have as many chances as they need to retake and pass the same test.

T-SHIRT: 

T-shirts can be ordered in October.  T-shirts are required because they will be worn at performances.

INSTRUMENT RENTAL: 

H&H MUSIC: 281-578-6542, MUSIC & ARTS: 281-391-1933, and FORT BEND MUSIC: 281-494-5885  has quality instrument for rent.  They will visit Miller every week to repair instruments and bring supplies. 

SCHOOL OWNED INSTRUMENTS: 

Miller does have instruments that students can use.  An insurance form must be completed with $30.00  before the instrument is issued to the student.  The student will not receive the instrument until the music knowledge test is passed.  Students must take extremely good care of the instrument. The director can ask for the student to return the instrument if he feels that it is not being cared for properly. 

BOOK: 

Rhythm Master Book 1 is sold at H&H Music. Please make sure that you know what instrument your child will be playing before you purchase the book.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS:

 Parents will be needed to help chaperone our field trips.
