Extra Credit

Each assignment completed is will replace the lowest classwork grade in the grade-book. You may only do each assignment once. (Max 3 assignments per subject)

MATH

1. Cut out a math article from a magazine or newspaper then, paste the article onto notebook paper and NEATLY write a 1 paragraph summary of what the article is about and WHY you chose the article.
2. Make a poster on 8.5 x 11" paper to demonstrate the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing numbers, fractions, or decimals.The poster must be colorful and readable from a distance.
3. Interview someone who is involved in math (accountant, architect, chemist, computer programmer, engineer, doctor, nurse, meteorologist, carpenter, mechanic, plumber, etc.) and write or type up the interview.
4. Make a PowerPoint presentation about a math topic you have learned about it 3rd or 4th grade.

SCIENCE

1. SAVE THE PLANET:

Bring photographic proof (of you and how you are saving the planet), and a paragraph summary.

Ideas: Plant a tree(s), Change the light bulbs in your house to more efficient light bulbs, Check pipes and find ideas to conserve fresh water/ electricity, Recycle, Walk/ Ride a bicycle.

2. Visit a scientific museum. Create a high quality poster showing you there (maybe with photographs).

a. What is the main field of science studied in the museum?

b. Picture of your favorite exhibit.

c. Describe 3 things you already knew about science before you went to the museum.

d. Describe 3 things you learned at the museum

e. Write 3 questions you have about something you saw at the museum.

(Possible museums: UGA AQUARIUM, Tybee Marine Science Museum, Jekyll Island 4-H Center)

3. Create an emergency plan for your family.

Create a high quality poster. The project must answer the following questions:

a. What supplies are in your emergency kit?

b. What is your plan if you are not with your family while the emergency is taking place?

c. What is your plan if you cannot meet up with your family at your home?

d. What is your plan if someone in your family is injured?

e. What is your plan for food/water/heat/cooling in case you cannot access a store, or the water is contaminated?

f. Describe your family meeting to plan these strategies.
