Miguel Fuentes, Ph.D.
Miguel Fuentes is a physicist and philosopher with extensive experience in complex systems, social resilience, sustainable development, and science diplomacy, with a strong emphasis on building international networks, academic fundraising, and scientific philanthropy. He has cultivated relationships with universities, foundations, and multilateral organizations across Latin America, the United States, and Europe, driving projects that integrate science, governance, and collaborative financing to address pressing environmental and social challenges.
Throughout his career, he has led and managed interdisciplinary projects funded by international agencies (ONR, UNESCO, SFI, among others), forging strategic alliances with foundations, governments, and the private sector. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics (Instituto Balseiro, center of excellence in Latin America), a Ph.D. in Philosophy (National University of La Plata), and a Master’s in International Affairs and Diplomacy (UNITAR–United Nations).
He has worked at leading institutions such as Sorbonne University (formerly Pierre et Marie Curie University, France), the Institut Non-Linéaire de Nice, and Los Alamos National Laboratory, and is an External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute (USA).
As CEO & Founder of Innova Applied Research, Miguel leads initiatives that apply complexity science, predictive modeling, and interdisciplinary analysis to support organizations in decision-making under uncertainty, resilience building, and innovation strategy. His work combines rigorous science with practical impact, helping businesses and institutions anticipate challenges and transform complexity into opportunity.
