S954/S1699/A1597 Nurse Compact Law

Gov. Phil Murphy has signed legislation, S954/S1699/A1597 entering the state into the enhanced multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). The eNLC is an agreement between states that allows a nurse to have one license to practice in all participating states.

S2494 Heat Participation Policy

Requires school districts which participate in Statewide interscholastic sports programs to adopt New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association heat and humidity practice policy. This act shall take effect in the first full school year following enactment. Approved January 9, 2020.

S3330/A4864 Teddy Bear Law (Teddy Bear Academy Bill)

Current law at N.J.S.18A:20-34 authorizes the use of public-school buildings and school district property for certain other purposes when not in use for school purposes. This bill authorizes uses to include child care services before or after regular school hours for school aged children who attend school within the district and for children younger than school age.

NURSE Act

The NURSE Act would give grants through from the Department of Education to increase the number of registered school nurses in Title I schools where there does not already exist a school nurse. These would be demonstration grants that would be awarded on a competitive basis.

Please do contact Congressman Norcross from Camden County to support the Nurse Act (Nurses for Under Resourced Schools Everywhere Act) HR 2606, which was referred to the House Committee on Education and Labor. Sample letter is attached below. Information also available on SchoolNurse.net.

Revisions to the Scholastic Student Athlete Safety Act Materials

The NJDOE has clarified that the health care providers are only required to sign the certification statement on the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) form attesting to completion of PD module. Schools will NOT have to obtain a copy of the health care provider’s certificate. Below is the Broadcast memo sent to schools districts on April 21, 2015.
